Viera seeks swift recovery
October 29 , 2003

The French midfielder faces at least three weeks on the sidelines after tearing his thigh muscle. "I'm desperate to get this problem rectified once and for all, so I can get back out on the pitch," said Viera. The 27-year-old will now see a specialist in France and could be ready to return at Birmingham on 22 November. Vieira came on as a second-half substitute in the Champions League match at Dynamo Kiev after a three-week lay-off. But he picked up the latest injury in the 2-1 defeat and said that featuring in the match might have been the wrong decision. "I came back into the team a bit too quickly, to be honest," Vieira told the club's official programme. "But that is nobody's fault as I really felt that I was ready to play. "I felt fit, strong and mentally prepared. It is so frustrating for me because I do not feel like my season has started yet. "I'm not going to tempt fate by setting myself a date for a comeback, but what I can guarantee is that I will be receiving the best treatment." Vieira, along with four of his team-mates, is also facing a suspension for his involvement in the ugly scenes in the Premiership match against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Frenchman was charged with failing to leave the field after his sending-off and is awaiting punishment by the Football Association.
